The Practitioners

Meet Our Practitioners

Our practice comprises of a Neurologist, a Clinical Technologist and a full-time Nurse.

Dr. Dion Opperman

I started my medical career at the University of Pretoria graduating MBChB in 1987. After qualifying MMed Cum Laude in Neurology at Stellenbosch University in 1995, I opened my Private Practice in Cape Town in 1996. Since then I have cared for all aspects of Neurological Disease. With over two decades of practicing as a Neurologist I have developed some special interests along the way such as in using Botulinum Toxin for Neurological conditions as well as training practitioners in the correct way to use this technique. We administer Botulinum Toxin for the treatment of Dystonia, Spasticity, Migraines and many other conditions. With complicated Dystonia and Spasticity cases, I have a lot of experience using Electromyographically (EMG) guided Botulinum Toxic injections.

I am also experienced with assessing and managing patients with the newer technologies such as Vagal Nerve Stimulation and Deep Brain Stimulation as well Baclofen Pumps.

Over the years of practicing as a Neurologist I have been invited to attend many international conferences on Multiple Sclerosis and was invited to attend specific training in M.S in Ottawa and Berlin. I am one of the authors of the South African Guidelines for the treatment and diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. In 2008 I was honoured by my peers to receive the FCP (Neurology) by peer review.

Mr Brent Jorissen

Brent is a qualified Clinical Technologist, working at Groote Schuur Hospital as well as Red Cross Children’s Hospital before joining the practice of Dr Dion Opperman in 1996. His focus is on Electroencephalography (EEG), Long-term monitoring and Evoked Potentials (measuring the brains response to a stimulus (auditory, visually or sensory). Brent has amazing patience working with children and has developed a great reputation for performing these tests on adults as well as children. Brent is especially good with children with special needs.
